Joyce is a graduate of DePauw University and holds a master's degree in Education from Indiana State University. She taught in the Vigo County School System for 8 years.
In 1981, Joyce joined the Coldwell Banker Larry Helman agency (which was then Larry Helman Has the Key and is now Coldwell Banker Troy Helman REALTORS). She is a 1984 GRI graduate and a 1988 CRS designee and received her master GRI designation in 1989. After serving in all officer positions of the local board, Joyce became president of the Terre Haute Area Association of REALTORS in 1987. After her year as board president, she served the state assocation as the District 6 Vice President. Following this, she also served as secretary-treasurer, first vice-president, and president-elect before becoming the Indiana Association of REALTORS President in 1992. Joyce has served on almost every commitee of the state association.
Joyce began teaching real estate in 1987, and a few years later opened the Joyce Cook School of Real Estate. She sold her school about 10 years later. She continues to teach real estate and train new agents coming into Coldwell Banker Troy Helman.
Joyce's numerous awards and recognitions include:

1989 IAR Instructor Scholarship
1990 Nomination by the Terre Haute Association and IAR for National Educator of the Year

1999 Terre Haute Association of REALTORS REALTOR-of-the-Year (2nd time)
1999 Indiana Association of REALTORS REALTOR-of-the-Year
In addition to her work in real estate, Joyce is active in the community and participates in the following activities and organizations:

Personally, Joyce has been married to Bill Cook since 1961, and they have two grown children and two grandchildren. Their daugther, Leslie, lives in Sugarland, TX, and their son, Warren, lives in New Castle, IN.
